The NPC Adventure is given to you by the NPC in Marshy Auction house. It is a quest similar to Artemis's where she asks you to find her a specific breed of specific colour. Except he asks you for specific exp as well.

What is the difference between an NPC adventure and a quest?

A quest is.. a quest. (: They grant quest points and rewards.
An NPC adventure is a repeatable quest which gives no quest points. They are, in general, designed as money sinks - therefore, you'll be losing money if you play those currently in game.
